Will UFC on Fox 8 Be A Success?

UFC on Fox 8  has all the components to be a successful event. Opening the main card will be a pivotal bantamweight women’s clash with Miesha Tate and Liz Carmouche. Two high stakes welterweight bouts help round out the main card. Robbie Lawler goes up against Tarec Saffiedine and Jake Ellenberger goes up against Rory MacDonald. The main event is Demetrious Johnson against John Moraga.

Here is the problem with this card, the UFC has been making fighters top contenders for a title match when their only wins were on preliminary bouts. Unless you are a hardcore fan, you probably don’t know who John Moraga is.

The UFC has made this mistake in the past and it doesn’t fare well for them. This fight card has the recipe to be exciting and the bout with Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald has “Fight of the Night” written all over it.

Let’s just hope that people watch these fights. John Moraga is a talented fighter and deserves to be the number one contender. However, if the UFC placed him on a main card bout first it would give Moraga more momentum going into a title match.

I hate to say it but I agree with you. Neither Moraga or Johnson are known to draw viewers and the most exciting fight is meaningless bout between Ellenberger and Macdonald. I say meaningless because Rory already said he won’t fight GSP so even if he wins, he’s either gotta break his word or move up which does nothing for the WW title picture. If Ellenberger wins, he’s still stuck behind Big Rig and Silva (possibly) in line to face GSP.
