Steven Siler had a two things to celebrate at UFC 159, with a victory in his bout versus Holobaugh and his wife telling him minutes before the fight that she’s pregnant.
Siler mentioned they’d been trying for eight months to get pregnant. “I had a smile that never left my face. I’m the happiest man in the world.”
This positive energy fueled him to win with a unanimous decision over fellow featherweight Kurt Holobaugh on the “Fight of the Night” that streamed over Facebook and was replayed on PPV after the conclusion of the main event.
The crowd may have been sparse at the Prudential Center but Siler had plenty of fans there. “I was actually able to get my family, friends- people were around me that I love,” Siler said, “They made this a perfect week… Everyone was around. I was very, very happy all week. I had a smile on my face, and it never left my face.”
That smile only got bigger, two hours before he left the hotel for the venue, his wife dropped the baby bomb taking him to another level.
Siler was slowly moving up in the 145 lbs weight class. He had nothing but respect for his is opponent Holobaugh, so much that he “hugged him 10 times in the back” before the fight started. That might of had something to do with the baby news, but he definitely got the message.
“I’m a good-spirit guy. I like to fight happy, not angry.” When you’ve been trying for eight months and you get news like that there’s not much else you can do but fight happy.
Heres to beating your opponent senseless with a smile! This “thud’s” for you!
