Bellator is said to be starting up a new type of tournament style for the summer 2013 season.

Normally Bellator has been in an eight-man elimination tournament to crown the title challengers. Now the league will adopt a new series of four-man tournaments in the heavyweight, light heavyweight and bantamweight divisions live on Spike TV.

CEO of Bellator, Bjorn Rebney said this, “We are always striving to enhance every aspect of the Bellator formula for our fighters and fans. Our champions consistently defending their titles against world class challengers who’ve earned their title shots creates a win-win for those two crucial groups. Three stacked four-man tournaments over our Summer Series on Spike is another great step in our growth and evolution.”

It’s going to put a lot more action in there for fans and title holders. This could even make the belts jump around a little more than usual. Should be some good summer fun.

No dates have been given out about the tournaments as of yet or even who will be in them. Previously this has had three events held from June to August, so it would be safe to say it’s going to be at that time again.

We’ll see how this plays out, Bellator is doing some good things to further enhance their organization like fight master, we’ll see how they continue to do

    • I like the tournament style, although unarguably UFC has a top roster of fighters. Still, Bellator has a great deal of room for improvement and the drive to do so.

Agreed, the tournament style format is like the old days of the UFC, and in my opinion Bellator will continue to grow for sure.

Bellator, like you said Evan, is slowly but surely making its way to the top alongside UFC.

Also, I like the switch up in the brackets personally.
