Replacements For Gustaffson Against Mousasi

It is confirmed
that Alexander Gustaffson will no longer be competing at UFC on Fuel 9 this weekend due to a facial laceration that he sustained during training this week. the SMMAF declared that he is unfit to fight on the card this weekend.

This is a huge blow to the UFC as the Swedish native has an immense fan-base. Now the challenge is determining which fighters the UFC can get to take this fight on such short notice.

Here are some of our top picks for who could put on a show against Mousasi this weekend:

Phil Davis: We know that ” Mr. Wonderful” is scheduled to fight Vinny Magalhaes at UFC 159 but the real question is what happened to Phil Davis? At one point he was considered a serious threat to Jon Jones and the whole Light Heavyweight division. Some considered that if he was able to defeat Rashad Evans at UFC on Fox 2, that he would have been granted a title shot. Since he’s not at the top of the division that was once so promising. A win against Mousasi could move the contender back into the top ten of Light Heavyweight elites.

James Te Huna or Glover Teixeria: The reason why these two are on the same column is because they are currently scheduled to fight each other at UFC 160. That gives one of these two fighters a chance to headline a UFC card and also break them into the top ten with a win. Both fighters are extremely aggressive and love to put a show on for the fans. Who wouldn’t want to see either one of these fighters go toe to toe with Mousasi?

Wanderlei Silva: This fight makes the most sense for a few reasons. First off, the fact that Silva fooled everyone (including ourselves) that he would be stepping up to fight Mousasi shows that he may truly be interested in that fight. Second, the fight would be a guaranteed barnburner. The fact that Wanderlei is coming off a potential fight of the year win over Brian Stann and how violent Mousasi can be means this fight would have Fight of the Night written all over it.  We’re in.

What do you think about our choices? Are there any other fighters that you think would make a great alternative to save the main event this weekend?
